The Challenge
A federal agency ran their very popular public website off a proprietary .NET based content management system. We had the challenge of taking full ownership of the site, including making all enhancements and ensuring its flawless performance during the worldwide release. The client required the response time to be less than 1 seconds per page load, worldwide. The client awarded us this project because their previous hosting infrastructure proved inadequate and buckled under much less traffic. The agency was not confident that the old system would withstand the launch-day traffic.
Our Approach
Minipack, as a subcontractor on the project, took the lead in building the .NET team from inception and saw it through a major version upgrade of the CMS. We architected their hosting from a private virtual cloud and judiciously used AKAMAI CDN to offload servers. We performed worldwide benchmarking of traffic for one year while all this was put in place.
Result
On the launch day, the site withstood 100 million hits (on the edges) and the servers withstood the load flawlessly. Based on our work, the contract was renewed for multiple years.
